Nathan Meister
Nathan graduated from Toi Whakaari: The New Zealand Drama School in 2002. Since then he has worked extensively in both film, TV and theatre. He has performed a diverse range of theatre roles, from Jay Gatsby to Walter Cronkite as well as being involved in several successful devised productions both as an actor and a dancer.
Nathan’s film credits include Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit, Steven Spielberg’s The Adventures of Tintin and James Cameron’s Avatar. His debut lead role was in cult favourite Black Sheep directed by Jonathan King with whom he recently reunited to star in Realiti for which he was nominated as Best Actor at the 2014 NZ Film Awards. Nathan also has several guest lead characters to his credit for productions and networks including the BBC, ABC and TVNZ. Furthermore he has worked as a presenter and documentary narrator. Trained in radio production he has enjoyed a long relationship with Radio NZ Drama.
As a specialist motion capture and creature suit performer Nathan has worked with world renowned Weta Workshop and Weta Digital on multiple projects including recent hit film What We Do In the Shadows with Jemaine Clement. Nathan is an experienced tutor in movement and film acting technique having worked as movement and performance coach on The Hobbit trilogy and teacher at amongst others The NZ Drama School, NZ School of Dance and Statens Scenekunstskole.
Nathan moved to Denmark with his wife and 3 children in 2013. His first role with Why Not Theatre Company was in “Secrets” in 2015. Nathan plays Nikola Tesla in Why Not’s pop-up production “Mr Tesla Played” and has also played in MAIREAD, THE CHEYENNE ARE LEAVING, HAPPY DAYS and FRANKENSTEIN, all at Teatret ved Sorte Hest.
